About Miss. Ashton:
The photo above was taken in Ecuador during a volunteer trip. These children lived in a small village in the rainforest. Our group took part in teaching the community English, as well as building septic tanks.

My Education
A Spring 2018 graduate of the University of Lethbridge with an enriched, and passion driven knowledge for teaching Language Arts. I graduated from the Combined Degree Program with two degrees, a Bachelor of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts degree.
My Teaching Philosophy
From the beginning of my journey in becoming a teacher, to the end of my first year teaching in Wolf Creek, I have strongly believed that authenticity is key in education. Not only is this belief important to me in my professional life, but also in my personal life. I think that when a person holds true to their authentic self, making meaningful connections comes easily. We've all been told that relationships are VIP to a successful year in teaching, and I would argue that the initial step in building relationships is allowing students to see you as a real, relatable person. I strive to make my students feel valued, and often this comes down to allowing them the space to show their authentic selves too. When I feel comfortable, and am "myself" with my class, I believe that it starts a trend. One where others feel inclined to open up, and share "themselves" in an authentic way too.
My Roots
Another important piece of my life lies in my western heritage! Coming from a family of professional rodeo athletes, caring for animals and competing with them has always been a "bucket filler" for me.

Hope & Penny
Hope & Penny is the small business that I created in 2016. I hand-craft leather and gemstone diffuser jewelry. Each piece has a Canadian penny attached that represents the little things in life that at first glance may seem insignificant. I attend various markets and events across Alberta spreading my message with Hope & Penny.
