Farming & Ranching Lesson "Where Does Our Food Come From?"
As I began my journey through my final internship at Senator Buchanan it quickly became apparent to me that students would benefit from a lesson on farming and ranching. During the first lesson in my Common Sense Club I asked students if they knew what a rancher was. The only response I had was a boy who ventured, "ranching means helping each other?" As my own roots are rurally based, and my childhood was spent raising cows and harvesting hay, I felt up to the task of better informing my audience.
The lesson that I created involved some very special guest speakers, my father Darren and brothers Garrett and Blake. Together, we presented a lesson that discussed the responsibilities associated with life on the farm, and further explained what it really meant to be a farmer/rancher. Through this presentation students got a real glimpse at what the lifestyle entails. Furthermore, students were able to see how another person their age could be involved! On top of sharing the rural ways that helped to explain who I am and where I've come from, I was able to delve into the rodeo accomplishments that me and my family have attained.
